My dog Mo was almost killed in a violent attack.

I’ll never forget it. One moment, we were outside like any other day. The next thing I knew, a large dog lunged at Mo and started violently shaking him like prey, trying to kill him.

He screamed with fear, a sound I will never ever forget. My sweet, gentle dog, screaming while he was whipped back and forth in another dog’s jaws.

I did the only thing I could: I reached into the dog’s mouth to pull Mo out. I got bitten. I was shaking. But somehow, Mo was okay. No blood. No visible injuries.

I didn’t understand how… until we got home.

That’s when I saw the deep bite marks in his service vest. That service vest was the only layer between him and that dog’s teeth, and it saved him from injury and saved his life.

That was the moment I knew I had to do something.

I’ve spent my entire career in cybersecurity helping people, companies, and national agencies stay protected from digital attacks, breaches, and targeted threats.

I worked for the Department of Defense in threat intelligence, digital forensics, and defense. I know what it means to see danger before it strikes and how to build systems that prevent disaster.

But this wasn’t about computers or networks.

This was my dog.

And it was real, violent, and personal.

So I shifted my focus. I took everything I know about protection and about anticipating danger, building safeguards, and staying one step ahead and I poured it into designing Guardian Petal to save the lives of small to medium sized dogs like Mo.

That’s how Guardian Petal was born: a line of protective dog harnesses built to shield small dogs during attacks, without sacrificing style, comfort, or joy.

I started designing prototypes that were adorable, padded, and secure. I wanted something beautiful. Something soft. But something that could save a life.

When I shared what happened on Instagram, I was flooded with responses. People told me about their own dogs, small, vulnerable, beloved companions who had been attacked the same way. Some stories ended in survival. Others didn’t.

I couldn’t just sit there and do nothing.

Guardian Petal was created for Mo—and for every small dog like him who deserves to live, be loved, and be protected.

How to Measure Your Dog

🎯 Step 1: Chest Girth (Most Important!)

Measure around the widest part of your dog's chest
Position tape directly behind the front legs
Keep tape snug but comfortable (2 fingers should fit underneath)
Take measurement 3 times for accuracy

📏 Step 2: Neck Circumference

Measure where a collar would naturally sit
Position just above the shoulders
Allow room for comfort (2-finger rule)

📐 Step 3: Back Length

Measure from base of neck to base of tail
Dog should be standing naturally
This ensures proper coverage

Important Sizing Notes

Always size up if between sizes - too tight is dangerous
For escape artists: Consider sizing down by 1 size for XXS/XS only
For thick fur: Part fur to skin when measuring
